Let us look at ourselves as human beings with dignity, values and inalienable human rights. We are persons not like the animals that see enemies and rivals all around them in the wild, and who fight and kill for food and survival. Most humans have a higher standard to live by and coexist in peace on this planet—but not all.

French Church groups fight anti-migrant attitudes

PARIS (CNS): The Church in France has launched a programme to combat anti-migrant and anti-Muslim attitudes amid reports of tensions among Catholics.
 
“It is to resist the rise of tensions and hostilities within the Christian community that our movements have decided to work” with the French Bishops’ Conference to find ways to “help Christians rise above these fears and face the migrant question calm and dispassionately,” said a June 7 statement on the conference’s website.

Philippine bishops call for worker boycott of abusive states

Manila (UCAN): The Catholic bishops of the Philippines want a total ban on the deployment of Filipino workers to countries that do not have laws to protect migrants.
 
Bishop Ruperto Santos of Balanga, chairperson of the Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People, said on March 26 that it is high time the government said no to countries where workers are abused and that a total ban is a preventive measure against human rights violations and loss of lives.
