True Catholic media doesn’t look for heretics everywhere

VATICAN (CNS): The rise of media that call itself Catholic but seem to exist only to judge others is less about criticising Pope Francis and more about the misguided notion that to affirm one’s own orthodoxy, one must find someone to label a heretic, Andrea Tornielli, the new editorial director of the Dicastery for Communication said on January 24.
 
Tornielli was commenting on Pope Francis’ remarks in Panama to the bishops of Central America on January 24, the feast of St. Francis de Sales, patron saint of journalists.

Catholic media must not fall behind in digital age

VATICAN (CNS): In an age when technology is ever-evolving, Catholic news organisations must be willing to adapt to effectively proclaim the gospel to all, Pope Francis said on May 1.
 
Speaking to directors and employees of Avvenire, the daily newspaper of the Italian Bishops’ Conference, the pope said that the use of new digital platforms not only requires significant technological updates but also a willingness to accept that “the attachment to the past may prove to be a dangerous temptation.”
