German Church leaders deplore xenophobic violence

WARSAW (CNS): “From a Christian perspective, violence cannot be an answer to violence. An offense must not be utilized to incite anger against entire ethnic groups,” Bishop Heinrich Timmerevers of Dresden-Meissen, said on August 28, as Germany’s Catholic leaders condemned anti-immigrant riots in Chemnitz, Saxony, that erupted after a man was killed in a brawl with migrants.’

Xenophobia and the foreigner in Rome

One morning a couple of years ago, while I was at home editing an article, somebody rang my doorbell.
 
It was not a good sign, because people in Rome usually make house calls by first buzzing the intercom at the entrance of the apartment building. Those who are already inside and show up directly at someone’s door are often trying to sell something.
