Mongolia welcomes its first priest

ULAANBAATAR (SE): The Church in Mongolia welcomed its first locally-born priest, Father Joseph Enkh, who was ordained by Bishop Wenceslao Padilla, the apostolic prefect of Ulaanbaatar, at the Cathedral of Ss. Peter and Paul on August 28.

Fides reported that the new priest chose Deny yourself, take up your cross daily and follow me (Like 9: 23) as his motto.

First ordination for Mongolia

ULAANBAATAR (SE): “We will soon have the first native priest from Mongolia,” Bishop Wenceslaus Padilla, the apostolic prefect of Ulaanbaatar, Outer Mongolia, told Fides on May 31.

A deacon, Reverend Joseph Enkh, has had the date for ordination as a priest in Ulaanbaatar set for August 28.

Ordination a reminder of dignity of hearing-impaired

SEOUL (SE): The ordination of a hearing-impaired Franciscan to the priesthood in Singapore on November 8, draws attention to a group in the Catholic Church that is often overlooked and mostly not understood.

Fifty-eight-year-old Father Rowland Yeo told UCAN, “We witness by our lives as lesser brothers, recognising that everyone is our brother and sister… and serving together with humility and generosity.”

Three ordained deacons in Hong Kong

HONG KONG (SE): Seminarians, Ignatius Lo King-Ip and Paul Nguyen Kim-son, were ordained deacons for the diocese of Hong Kong together with a Franciscan, Pio Ng Wan-hang, by John Cardinal Tong Hon at St. Francis of Assisi parish, Shek Kip Mei, on November 14.

The Mass was celebrated by Cardinal Tong, together with Joseph Cardinal Zen Ze-kiun, Bishop Michael Yeung Ming-cheung and Bishop Joseph Ha Chi-shing. Around 1,000 people were present.

Muslim mother blesses son at ordination

JAKARTA (AsiaNews): During the ordination ceremony to the priesthood of Reverend Robertus Asiyanto in Flores, Indonesia, his Muslim mother, Sites Asiyah, dressed in full hijab, walked to the altar and laid hands on him in prayer.

“I’m really happy to see my son ordained a Catholic priest,” she said at the end of the celebration.
