Seminarians picked up at rally by police in Papua

JARKATA (UCAN): Catholics in the Papua province of Indonesia have denounced what they call repressive measures against them, after police detained six seminarians taking part in a peaceful rally on October 8.

Six Franciscan and Augustinian seminarians had joined other rights advocates at a rally held in the provincial capital of Jayapura.

Muslim mother blesses son at ordination

JAKARTA (AsiaNews): During the ordination ceremony to the priesthood of Reverend Robertus Asiyanto in Flores, Indonesia, his Muslim mother, Sites Asiyah, dressed in full hijab, walked to the altar and laid hands on him in prayer.

“I’m really happy to see my son ordained a Catholic priest,” she said at the end of the celebration.
