Dear brothers andsisters in Christ

Wishing you the peace of Christ! The season of Advent is upon us, when the Church marks the beginning of a new liturgical year! People may wonder: what new directions should the Church take in the new liturgical year?

During the celebrations of the universal Church marking the 50th anniversary of the opening of Vatican II, at the end of last year the Diocese of Hong Kong launched a Year of Learning to run throughout 2014.

Cardinal Tong of Hong Kong asks for prayers for June 8 meeting of Pope Francis and presidents of Palestine and Israel

During his trip to the Holy Land on Sunday, 25 May 2014, His Holiness Pope Francis has invited the two Presidents Shimon Peres and Mahmoud Abbas to come to the Vatican and to join him in prayer for peace, offering them the proper house for such an encounter.

Cardinal Tong calls for fasting and prayer

Hong Kong (SE): John Cardinal Tong Hon, the bishop of Hong Kong, has expressed his support for Pope Francis’ proclamation of September 7, the vigil of the birth of Mary, Queen of Peace, as a day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria, the Middle East and throughout the world.

He appealed to the faithful of Hong Kong to fast and pray on the day, and suggests this prayer from the Aid to the Church in Need:

Cardinal Tong talks about meeting the new pope

HONG KONG (SE): On is return to Hong Kong from the conclave on March 19, John Cardinal Tong Hon shared that he had the opportunity to speak with the newly-elected Pope Francis on three occasions.

He related that within an hour or so of his election on March 13, the new pope greeted all the cardinals one by one inside the Sistine Chapel.
