Cardinal Tong talks about meeting the new pope

HONG KONG (SE): On is return to Hong Kong from the conclave on March 19, John Cardinal Tong Hon shared that he had the opportunity to speak with the newly-elected Pope Francis on three occasions.

He related that within an hour or so of his election on March 13, the new pope greeted all the cardinals one by one inside the Sistine Chapel.

Hong Kong joins China in prayer for Pope Benedict and his successor

HONG KONG (SE): In response to a letter sent by the Vatican secretary of state, Tarcisio Cardinal Bertone, to all dioceses and religious houses in the world on February 21, passing on a request from Pope Benedict XVI for Catholics everywhere to be with him in prayer during the last days of his pontificate, Hong Kong diocese called people to come together at a Mass offered at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on the evening of February 27.

Gala welcome home for new cardina

HONG KONG (SE): The people and priests of Hong Kong diocese gathered at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on March 3 for the celebration of a Mass of thanksgiving and to welcome the newly appointed John Cardinal Tong Hon back home from Rome.

Attended by around 20 representatives of Christian denominations and religious faiths, as well as the former bishop of the diocese, Joseph Cardinal Zen Ze-kiun, people rose to applaud the new cardinal when he entered the packed cathedral.

The coat-of-arms of the cardinal

HONG KONG (SE): In choosing his coat of arms as a cardinal, John Cardinal Tong Hon has kept the central design from the one he took as bishop of Hong Kong in 2009, while adding the insignia of a cardinal to the design.

It features a book, which represents the Interim Report and Proposals of the late John Baptist Cardinal Wu Cheng-chung and relates to his pastoral exhortation, March into the Bright Decade.
