Setting sail for Holy Spirit seminary

On Sunday, October 23, at around 1.00pm, a lone ship pulled away from the quarry side in front of Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in Tai Po. Its cargo contained a motley crew of Sunday School and Youth Group students, teachers and parents, along with other notable personages of esteemed repute, including Sister Maria So Yin-ha and Father Paulo Ceruti, as well as numerous helpers of the generous sort.

Journeying in life

Reaching my 39th birthday on October 15 was such a great blessing from above. People say that life begins at 40, therefore my life is yet to begin.

It is quite alarming to think about an approaching of a birthday, not because of the number, but the thought that another chapter of life is being opened and the dare of an unknown tomorrow has to be faced.

Parish living rosary

We had our Living Rosary in the parish car park of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Tai Po, at 5.00pm on October 31. It was joined by the Chinese- and English-speaking communities, as well as members of ministries and parishioners. We are glad that the parish has this event to celebrate our devotion.

The Living Rosary was participated in by 61 people and three altar servers, who carried the cross and candle. The rest joined the choir and prayers from their place.

Let’s make time for the Lord

The Jubilee Year of Mercy was meaningful for me and I was especially touched during a pilgrimage to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. For me, pilgrimage is a sacrifice—it is a sacrifice to make time for the Lord in order to learn more about the sacred text, ethics and holy places, to deepen our faith.

Holy Family in Choi Hung

HONG KONG (SE): The Christ the King community in Holy Family parish, Choi Hung, celebrated its ninth anniversary with a musical drama competition on November 20. This year’s celebration carried the theme The life of the Holy Family in our everyday life.

Entering the parish hall where the celebration took place felt like travelling back to the time of the Holy Family, as most of those in the hall were wearing costumes from the time of Jesus.

Is keeping a promise important for you?

I  promised myself that I will not do unnecessary things, say bad words, always respect and understand the decisions of others.

Promises are important, because they give people hope in something that for sure will happen at the right time. It is important to keep your promises, because once you have delivered the words, they can never be revoked; words that already linger in people’s mind and keeps them hoping until you fulfill your promise.

Filipino resilience

The resilient Filipino spirit was once again put to test when Super Typhoon Lawin hit The Philippines in October. People were alarmed and terrified as the worse of it hit the provinces. Four- to five-metre high storm surges, fierce skies, heavy rain and strong winds were threatening as forecasted.

Despite the massive losses, Lawin was not as severe as Typhoon Yolanda in 2013, because early preparation and the evacuation of the people helped and saved more lives.

Jesus smiles

Jesus Christ, I thank you for your powerful smile,

a sign of peace and understanding

for those who are in trouble,

which speaks a lot in one way or another.

Your smile brings love and hope for the broken-hearted

It heals and soothes a wounded spirit
