Plea for missing Chinese bishop

Hong Kong (UCAN): Su Tianyou, the nephew of Bishop James Su Zhimin of the unofficial Church in Baoding, Hebei province, has appealed for information about his whereabouts. The bishop has been missing for 23 years.
 
“His whereabouts are unknown and I don’t even know if he is alive or not. I am upset with tears every time I think of this 87-year-old man. Please pray for him,” Su said.

The bishop who was simply disappeared

HONG KONG (AsiaNews): A Mass was offered on the evening of October 11 at St. Andrew’s parish in Tseung Kwan O for the intentions of Bishop James Su Zhimin, who disappeared from his diocese of Baoding in China some 20 years ago and little to nothing has been heard of his situation since.
 
Bishop Michael Yeung Ming-cheung invited the gathering at the Mass organised by the Justice and Peace Commission to pray for the Chinese bishop that he may one day regain his freedom and return to the care of the people whom God has entrusted to him.

Appeal to include aged bishop in amnesty

HONG KONG (SE): Catholic people in Hebei province have renewed their appeal for the release of long-imprisoned Bishop James Su Zhimin, from the unofficial Church community in Baoding.

The request came after the president, Xi Jinping, granted amnesty to jailed war veterans, as well as bedridden or disabled elderly prisoners on August 29 to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Tight lid on Bishop Su after 15 years prison

 

ROME (AsiaNews): For 15 years the bishop of the unofficial Catholic community in Baoding, Hebei province, Bishop James Su Zhimin, has been held in police custody at an unknown location without any contact with the outside world.
