Redemptoris Mater College to open in Macau

HONG KONG (SE): A Redemptoris Mater College for Evangelisation in Asia was established in Macau by the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples on June 29, Agenzia Fides, reported.
 
The decree of establishment was signed by Fernando Cardinal Filoni, prefect of the congregation and the college entrusted to the Neocatechumenal Way. It is slated to open its doors to students from different nations in September.

Vatican envoy visits Sri Lanka after attacks

COLOMBO (UCAN): Fernando Cardinal Filoni, prefect of the Vatican Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, made an unheralded visit to Sri Lanka to show solidarity with Catholics still reeling from the Easter Sunday suicide bombings that claimed over 250 lives and injured more than 400.

Church marks 350 years in Thailand

BANGKOK (UCAN): Fernando Cardinal Filoni, the prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples was in Thailand to help celebration the 350th anniversary of the Church’s mission there.
 
“Asia is a sector of humanity rich in cultures and organized religions but with more than 85 per cent of its members un-baptised,” he told religious, seminarians and catechists at a ceremony in Sampran, 30km west of Bangkok on May 18.

Cardinal Filoni visits Hong Kong

The prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, Fernando Cardinal Filoni, visited Taiwan in March and, as the pope’s special envoy, celebrated the closing Mass of the Eucharistic Congress there. He then visited Macau and Hong Kong from March 4 to 6, meeting with local clergy, and visiting seminaries and post-secondary colleges.

HONG KONG (SE): Fernando Cardinal Filoni, the prefect of the Congregation of Evangelisation of Peoples (Propaganda Fide) has a connection with Asia that runs deeper than having been a former nuncio who took care of the affairs of Macau, Hong Kong and China. Though for eight years (1992 to 2000) he was the nuncio to the Philippines, he based himself in Hong Kong, bridging China-Vatican relations.

Unilateral setup of new seminary surprises archibishop of Tokyo

TOKYO (UCAN): “I am very confused by the decision of the congregation,” Archbishop Tarcisius Isao Kikuchi of Tokyo, said in reaction to a letter from Fernando Cardinal Filoni, prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, unilaterally announcing that a new seminary would be established for the Neocatechumenal Way somewhere in the Archdiocese of Tokyo.
 
In an August 15 statement he said he was not aware exactly where the seminary would be located or when it will become operational.

HONG KONG (SE): The prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples and former head of the Vatican China study mission in Hong Kong, Fernando Cardinal Filoni, has broken a silence on China that he has kept almost completely intact since Hong Kong-born Archbishop Savio Tai-fai became secretary to the congregation nearly two years ago.
