Two from Hong Kong ordained

HONG KONG (SE): Reverend Francis Mahilum and Reverend Flavien Bouambe, both from the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM), were ordained priests during October and although they are confreres in Hong Kong their ceremonies were far apart.
 
Father Mahilum was ordained by Bishop Michael Yeung Ming-cheung at St. Lawrence’s parish in Tsuen Wan on October 14.
 
Now 38-years-of-age, Father Mahilum, was born into a Catholic family in The Philippines and is the youngest of 11 children.

A first for Thailand

BANGKOK (SE): Ordinations to the priesthood in Thailand may be rare enough, but over the weekend of July 8 and 9 there was a first for the Church in the Land of Smiles when Reverend John Phong Phan Wongarsa was ordained a priest under the title of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions in his home parish of the Holy Family in Ban Nong Khu.

Unusual move for unusual times

SHANGHAI (SE): Deacon today and priest tomorrow was the story for four seminarians from Shanghai on June 6 and 7.
 
Shanghai has been without the services of an active bishop since the newly ordained Bishop Thaddeus Ma Daqin was placed under house arrest in July 2012.
 
And it has been without a seminary since Sheshan was closed shortly afterwards, relying on the cooperation of neighbouring dioceses and bishops for the formation of its future priests.

Missionary ordination in Yuen Long

HONG KONG (SE): Reverend Michael Zhang, from the Institute of the Incarnate Word, was ordained a priest at the parish of Ss. Peter and Paul in Yuen Long on May 20 by John Cardinal Tong Hon.
 
Father Alberto Barattero, the superior of the congregation’s province in the United States of the America (US), recommended the young deacon to Cardinal Tong for ordination.

Eleven ordained priests on Day of Prayer for China

BEIJING (AsiaNews): As Churches around the world prayed for the Church in China on the feast of Our Lady of Sheshan on May 24, also celebrated as Our Lady Help of Christians in most parts of the world,  people in Kunming, Chongqing and Xinjiang rejoiced at the ordination of 11 deacons as priests.

However, the joy was somewhat tempered, as nine of the 11 were ordained by Bishop Joseph Ma Yinglin, from Kunming, who was himself ordained a bishop without a mandate from the pope.
