Congo dioceses step up efforts against Ebola

WARSAW (CNS): The Diocese of Goma, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has boosted measures to protect its congregations against Ebola, after the latest outbreak was declared an international emergency by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
 
“The Goma Diocese is joining the general preoccupation with preventive precautions,” said a statement issued by Monsignor Jacques Letakamba, the diocesan chancellor.

Congo’s Church leaders urge international help to contain Ebola

OXFORD (CNS): Catholic church representatives in Congo have called fort international action to contain Ebola, after an epidemic in the country’s eastern provinces was declared an emergency by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on June 17 during at meeting in Geneva, Switzerland.
 
“The Congolese people have suffered so many troubles in recent years—Ebola is only the latest,” said Monsignor Andre Massinganda, deputy secretary-general of the National Episcopal Conference of the Congo.

KINSHASA (SE): “Why are you killing me?” are believed to have been the last words spoken by Assumptionist Father Vincent Machozi as he faced the guns of the military on the night of March 20 in the village of Vitungwe-Isale, 15 kilometres from Butembo in the Territory of Beni, North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
